Our Expertise

Dr Jean van Neikerk has over 30 years experience as a veterinary surgeon and specialises in the artificial breeding of small ruminants, and is considered to be an authority and pioneer in the South African small stock embryo industry. As well as his extensive involvement with the international small stock embryo industry. His wife Moozie, is a qualified veterinary nurse, and an excellent embryologist. The couple's daughter Andrea is the stud stock, and centre manager. She has also undergone training as an embryologist and artificial breeding programmer.

Dr. Jean van Niekerk and his team are highly regarded among local and international breeders, veterinary health authorities and colleagues for expertise and integrity. They have been ackknowleged for their success in the collection of Dorper, Damara, Karakul, Merino, S.A Meat Merino and Dohne Merino sheep as well as Angora, Boer, Kalahari Red and White Savannah goat embryos.

Murray River Genetics(MRG) exports to New Zealand, Canada, U.S.A, Brazil, Mexico, China and now the European Union. MRG collects, exports and implants approximately 8,000 embryos annually.

Registration and Accreditation 

  • Licensed to practice as a Veterinary Surgeon (South Africa since 1980)
  • Licensed to practise as a Veterinary Surgeon with the Veterinary Surgeons Boards of Western Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland in Australia.
  • Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, United Kingdom.
  • Member of the South African Veterinary Association.
  • Member of the Large Animal Health and Production Group of the S.A.V.A.
  • Small Stock Representative on the Committee of the South African Veterinary Semen and Embryo Group.
  • Registered with the Directorate of Veterinary Services, Department of Agriculture, as a Team Leader for sheep and goat embryos.
  • In 2004 received Australian Reproductive Veterinarians / Australian Quarantine Inspection Services (AQIS) Accreditation as an embryo export team leader in Australia.
  • Member of the Australian Reproductive Veterinarians.
  • The first in Australia to receive accreditation as an Embryo & Semen Quarantine Collection Centre for the European Union (2011).
